When it comes to gutter protection, you have many different options. In today’s post, we discuss three common gutter cover products and demonstrate how Gutter Helmet® rain gutter guards outperform them all.

Mesh Screen

Mesh screens filter out leaves, debris and animal waste from your gutters. While mesh screens work well in light rain, they have trouble coping with heavy rainfall. During a strong storm, mesh screens can cause your gutters to back up, leading to water spilling over the side of your home and damaging your siding and landscape.

Brushes

Gutter brushes feature heavy-duty bristles and are inserted inside your gutters. They are sometimes called whiskers since they resemble the thick whiskers of a cat. The brushes are designed to trap debris and prevent it from entering your gutters. The problem is that debris often gets stuck in the brushes, which then prevents water from flowing smoothly into the gutters, defeating the entire purpose of the gutter brush.

Foam

Foam gutter covers are made of porous polyurethane and inserted into the gutter. Water seeps through the foam, while debris is blocked. Foam gutter covers work well in the short-term, but need to be frequently replaced because they will quickly deteriorate.

While each of these options can offer short-term protection for your gutters, they are not reliable, long-term solutions. Fortunately, a product exists that can reliably protect your gutters from clogging for many years, while requiring no effort from you: Gutter Helmet®.
