- Always consider the weather before going to your roof. Never go up when it’s raining or when it’s windy. A strong gust of wind could knock you off your feet. Moreover, climbing a wet ladder could lead to a fatal injury.
- Check your ladder and make sure it’s in good condition. Place the ladder on a solid and level surface and use the ladder stabilizer that attaches to the top of the ladder. While on the ladder, make sure your feet are planted firmly on the ladder. Keep your hips as close to the ladder as possible to maintain your balance.
- Make sure you’re wearing sneakers or work boots to avoid slipping. Don’t forget safety glasses and work gloves if you’re planning to do some cleaning.
- Don’t work on the roof alone. In case of an accident, somebody should be nearby to help you. If you don’t have a choice and you need to go up there alone, advise someone first.
