If you spot a hole in your gutters, then you need to get it fixed as soon as possible if you want to avoid water damage to your home. Fortunately, this is a relatively simple fix. Clean the Area Around the Hole
For this project, you will need roofing cement, a wire brush, a putty knife, a caulking gun and a metal patch. The first thing you’ll need to do is to clean the area around the hole. Get the putty knife and scrape the area around the hole and the edges of the hole to smoothen it out. Next, use a wire brush to remove any rust.
Apply the Roofing Cement
Once the area is completely clean, use the caulking gun to apply a generous amount of roofing cement around the edges of the gutter hole. You’ll need to spread the cement a few centimeters around the hole using the putty knife. This will help the patch stick to gutter better. Before applying the patch, make sure that it covers the entire hole and some of the space around the hole.
Attach the Metal Patch
Press the metal patch towards the gutter and leave it to dry. Once the new gutter patch is dry, cover it with sealant in order to finish the repair. If you did it correctly, your gutters will no longer leak. However, remember that this fix is only a temporary solution. If your gutters have a lot of holes, then you’ll probably need to replace your gutters soon. This fix will only buy you a couple of months.
