K-style gutter systems remain one of the most popular types of gutters on the market today. Its fashionable appearance compliments any architectural home style, whether it is traditional or contemporary.  Available in a variety of lengths and sizes, they come in either sectional or seamless configurations.

Mr. Fix It™, your gutter protection service provider in the local area, discusses the origin behind the name K-style gutters. We’ll also highlight the advantages of this gutter system.

It Is Not What It Looks Like

Contrary to popular belief, K-style gutters do not look like the letter K when seen from the side. The Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning Contractors National Association (SMACNA) compiled 12 of the most common types of rectangular gutter profiles, with this style placed 11th on the list. The name comes from the fact that the profiles are listed in alphabetical order—K is the 11th letter of the alphabet.

The most notable feature of K-style gutters is the ogee, which can be discerned from the side. The design profile has a dual curve with the contour of an elongated S, which resembles crown molding found in most homes’ interiors.

Advantages of the K-Style Gutter System

One of the many advantages of K-style gutters is on how they are installed. The flat side of the gutters can be nailed directly into the fascia board. This allows for easier installation without the need for brackets to keep everything together.

The K-style gutters also provide a seamless finish, making them less prone to leaks than other gutter types. They can also hold rainwater better, lessening the chances of water damage on your home. Moreover, they offer a stylish appearance that can easily boost the curb appeal of your exterior.

K-style gutters make for a great investment on your next home improvement project. They can be hard to clean, however, which is why it would make sense that you also consider equipping the whole system with Gutter Helmet®. This gutter protection system blocks debris out of the gutter system while rainwater flows away from your home.
