6 Factors that Affect Gutter Installation Costs

By January 20, 2016October 18th, 2023No Comments

The price of a new gutter system installation includes the cost of labor and materials, delivery, worksite preparation, cleanup and disposal. Actual gutter prices vary widely because several different factors come into play when a contractor provides a quote.

These factors include:

• Local labor costs. Labor costs can vary widely by zip code. Expect to pay more for a fully licensed, bonded and insured contractor. However, the assurance that your gutters will be installed correctly and your property protected throughout the job is well worth the slightly higher cost. It’s easy to get competitive bids from equally qualified contractors.
• Gutter type. Seamless gutters are more expensive than sectional gutters, but offer a healthy return on investment because they aren’t as prone to leaks and are easier to maintain.
• Gutter material. Each material has its own share of pros and cons. The most commonly used materials for gutters are (from least to most expensive): vinyl, aluminum, stainless steel and copper.
• Home size (square footage). Because contractors charge per linear foot of guttering installed, gutter replacement is more expensive for homes with bigger footprints. Larger homes also have a larger drainage area and require more downspouts, which adds to the cost of materials.
• Number of stories. The complexity and cost of a gutter installation job increases as the number of stories increases. This is because jobs involving taller buildings call for more workers, more safety equipment and higher insurance requirements.
• Extras. Adding extra features like gutter protection, downspout extensions, splash blocks, rain barrels, rain chains and other accessories will add to the final estimate for any given gutter installation project.
