Our story dates back to the 1960s, when MIT graduate Bob Demartini started working on his vision of developing a meshless gutter cover that can filter rainwater away from roofs while keeping debris and animal waste out of the gutter. After his retirement in 1979 from Huyck Corporation, Demartini focused on the development of the Gutter Protection System and was soon rewarded with three U.S. patents for his invention.
In the early 1980s, he started manufacturing and marketing his products in North Carolina. The increasing sales volume caught the attention of the national building material supplier Masco Corporation, which bought the company’s assets and the exclusive rights to Demartini’s patent. Masco Corporation formally launched Gutter Helmet in 1981 and acquired patent rights to the company in 1989. The company, however, was sold again to Hart & Cooley in 2001. On September 16, 2005, Gutter Helmet was acquired by Southeastern Metals Manufacturing Co. (SEMCO), a division of Gibraltar Industries.
