3 Tips to Hire an Expert Gutter Installer

By March 24, 2017October 18th, 2023No Comments

When it comes to gutters and gutter guards, it pays to invest not only in high-quality products, but also highly reputable, experienced contractors to complete the installation. You could purchase the most durable gutters in the world, but if the contractors you hire to do the installation botch the job, your system won’t perform well and you will have wasted your money.

With countless contractors in the industry advertising their services, how do you choose the best one for your needs? In today’s post, we share three tips for hiring a contractor you can trust to do the job smoothly, efficiently and effectively.

1. Ask for Referrals

Begin by asking friends, family and acquaintances for referrals. People you know will tell you the truth about their experience working with a contractor, whereas with online reviews you can never be totally sure if the feedback is authentic. You can also ask your friends and family in-depth questions about their experiences to get a better feel about the contractors’ customer service, work ethic and skills.

2. Research Contractors Online

Go to the Better Business Bureau’s website and look up any companies you are considering. You can see their rating and read other customer reviews to get a good idea of their reputation and reliability. Sites like Angie’s List, Yelp and Google also include customer reviews that can shed more light on each company’s dependability.

Once you’ve created a shortlist of companies you’re interested in working with, go to each contractor’s website and read about their services. We recommend choosing a company that can offer new gutters as well as gutter protection systems and gutter maintenance services. This way, if you ever need to repair your gutters or you decide to invest in leaf guard gutters later on, you will have already built a relationship with the contractor and won’t have to go through the whole process of finding a reputable company again. You should also read the “About Us” page on each company’s website to get a feel for their mission, experience and skill set.

3. Request Quotes

Once you’ve narrowed your list down to two or three companies, call and speak to sales representatives about their services, pricing and installation process. While there are many factors that go into a quote on new gutters or gutter guards, getting quotes from two or three different companies is a good way to compare services and pricing, and make sure you’re getting a fair deal.

During your phone calls, pay close attention to the level of customer service that each sales representative is providing. If you feel they aren’t being helpful or patient enough with your questions, we recommend moving on to the next company on your list. This may be a sign that the company’s attitude toward customer service in general is lacking, which would not bode well for your relationship with them.
