Gutter Guard Reviews from Around the Web
There are dozens of gutter products, and like any market, some products do their job better than others, and even the best have drawbacks. Here are gutter guard reviews to see how Gutter Helmet stacks up next to some of the top competitors:
Leaf Filter
LeafFilter is typical of low-cost gutter protection: a series of screens are attached to a plastic grid and then caulked to the top of your gutters. It comes with a no-clog guarantee and has been praised by Consumer Reports. Unfortunately, it isn't necessarily praised by consumers themselves: a frequent complaint is that the screens become covered with debris and water just runs straight off the roof, not falling into the gutters at all. How does that fit their "no-clog" guarantee? They're not guaranteeing the product itself...just that the interiors of your gutter won't clog. This technicality has angered more than one consumer in our gutter guard review.
Gutter Glove
The Gutter Glove is a more advanced screen system, highly praised for its clever design. Another top choice of Consumer Reports, the Gutter Glove uses a series of increasingly fine screens to catch even the smallest piece of debris. Consumer reviews and professional tests alike compliment it on its ability to collect anything, no matter how small. However, that comes with two problems: like any screen product, the Gutter Glove will eventually clog, and can be difficult to clean when it does. Despite that, the Gutter Glove is widely considered an excellent system for protecting your gutters, and its contractors also receive high marks for professionalism and courtesy.
Gutter Topper
The Gutter Topper has one virtue that consumers love above all else: toughness. The Gutter Topper is designed to be impossible to ding once you put it into place, something that makes it especially popular in regions that see strong weather. However, that toughness doesn't necessarily apply to how it's secured: although rare, sometimes the Gutter Topper's roof seal can come loose. To the company's credit, though, we only found this complaint in a few places, and it always ended the same way: with the company's contractors coming out and repairing the problem within a few days of calling, and to the customer's satisfaction.
Amerimax Gutter Screens
Another screen product; the primary benefit of this one is that you can install it yourself. And then keep installing it...
Far be it from us to disparage Amerimax, but these gutter screens are designed to fill a need in the market for the DIY folks, or those who need to protect their gutters at a low cost. Consumers like the simplicity and relative ease of installing these screens, but dislike their durability and tendency to get clogged.

At Gutter Helmet, we've had many satisfied customers. In particular they like our design, which keeps gutters clear while keeping water from streaming off your roof. We've taken a lot of care in designing our product, but we can't please everyone: some people have asked us why Gutter Helmet needs to be professionally installed. The installation is not easy enough to try yourself, which is why Gutter Helmet requires a professional to be sure our product is adjusted correctly for the pitch and slope of your roof.
