It’s Fall again, folks. It’s time to break out your sweaters, your wool socks, and yes, your turtle necks (we won’t tell!). While you’re at it, make sure that your home is ready for winter. There are plenty of good Fall home-maintenance to-do lists out there:
TIP #5:
5. Clean the gutters. A service charges $70 to $200 for a single-story house, depending on its size. If your gutters are full of detritus, water can back up against the house and damage roofing, siding and wood trim, plus cause leaks and ice dams. Also look for missing or damaged components that need repair.

Florida firefighters are asking homeowners to take their dirty gutters seriously. In addition to causing clogs (which, in turn, can cause water damage to your home) dirty gutters are a fire safety hazard.
If you live in a dry climate, you most likely have brush fires and/or forest fires in your area. Sparks from these fires can travel a great distance and actually ignite the dry leaves and twigs in your gutters. “Roofs need to be cleaned off,” said Lt. Vandemark, in an interview with MyFox Orlando. “Gutters need to be clean, free of litter and pine needles.”

“Gutter Helmet” means never having clean your gutters again. And THAT means you’ll never again need to drag that ladder out of the garage, extend it up to reach your gutters, and then haul yourself up 20, 30 or 40 feet in the air. I know of several people who have fallen off ladders while cleaning their gutters, and the results are never pretty. So if you’re serious about keeping leaves and debris out of your gutters, get serious about gutter protection and Gutter Helmet. Gutter Helmet is the best leaf guard system on the market.
